Serengeti-Park Hodenhagen is one of the most unique destinations on Germany’s tourist map. It combines a zoo (safari) with a massive amusement park, spanning 220 hectares in Lower Saxony. If you want to feel like you’re on the African savanna without leaving Europe, this is the place for you.
The park is divided into four main zones that guarantee a full day of excitement:
Serengeti Safari: The biggest attraction. You can drive through the enclosures in your own car or on a special bus (Serengeti Bus), where lions, tigers, giraffes, rhinos, and elephants roam freely. It’s a 10-kilometer route among 1,500 animals.
- Jungle-Safari: A walking zone where you’ll encounter over 200 monkeys of various species. Here, you can enter some of the enclosures and come face-to-face with lemurs or marmosets.
- Adventure-Safari: A classic amusement park with over 100 attractions. Here you’ll find roller coasters, carousels, a Ferris wheel, and spectacular acrobatic shows.
- Water World: Water attractions, including high-speed Jet-Boats and rafting rides.
History of the amusement park
Serengeti-Park was opened in 1974 by Paolo Sepe. From the very beginning, the idea was to create a place where animals live in conditions close to their natural habitats, and people are merely guests in their world. Over the decades, the park has evolved from a traditional safari into a modern leisure complex, remaining to this day in the hands of the Sepe family.
